National Trivia Day

National Trivia Day is an annual celebration observed on January 4th of every year. Not all of us know the odd and unusual facts. These piece of information are often considered to be little important. One might have found that fact from anywhere and about any fields. So might share those little less importantly considered facts or knowledge with others. Sometimes, these less likely unusual facts need to be celebrated no matter how silly it is. National Trivia Day celebrates those facts, and the person who not remember it but also share that trivial information with others.

“I think I’m a trivia nerd. I love to learn about everything. I’m curious.” – Adam Rodriguez

History of National Trivia Day

There is no mention from when the National Trivia Day has been celebrated. Robert L. Birch, Grand PunScorpion of the Puns Corps was referred to be the creator of this day. Birch has established this Day as to raise awareness to all sort of people about the importance of trivia in the progress of human curiosity, science, and fun. The word trivia is the plural form of the word trivium. Trivia comes from a Latin term for the intersection of three paths. During the Middle Ages, trivia refers to the lower Artes Liberales called rhetoric, grammar, and logic. In the late 19th century trivia came to apply more to the information of the kind that is used almost exclusively for answering the quiz questions. A perfect “trivia question” is one that initially stumps the listener, and however, the answer finally sounds familiar once revealed.

National Trivia Day

During the 1960s, Nostalgic college students started to informally exchange questions and answers about the youth’s popular culture. The Columbia University students Ed Goodgold and Dan Carlinsky after writing the trivia columns have made the earliest known inter-collegiate quiz bowls that tested culturally significant, yet virtually useless information, which they called as trivia contests.  Trivial Pursuit is the World famous trivia game that also made people attract towards the trivia by conducting competitions to see who knows more odd facts. The facts can be anything from history, geography, art, science, sports and entertainment. Thus, Trivial Pursuit has become an almost instant hit from where the trivia craze began making it a worldwide phenomenon.
