National Sister’s Day

National Sister’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of every August. Whether it is in the closest of bonds or the farthest of distance between us, our family is some of the most intimate ties many of us have outside of our marriage and children. This day is to honour one of those very bonds, one that has cracked many stories, movies, and songs; the bond of the Sisterhood. So here is to you, all the sisters out there who cared for us, helped us and even helped develop us into who we are today – Happy National Sister’s Day!

History of National Sister’s Day

The history of sisters is the thing to view back as far as time goes backwards. A sister was the one that you confided in, asked the question to the older ones, guided our younger ones, and were there to help them either way through the bad times, and celebrate with them at the good times. A sister may not be the individuals born of the same mother or father, but those close to you that they might as well share your blood. In fact, the very concept of a sisterhood has been around for many millennia, with churches, covens and even groups of touring pants forming them. Just kidding, we all recognize it was a group of teenagers. But still, the idea gives merit and a bond between them that exceeds even friendship.

How to Celebrate National Sister’s Day

A sister is one that you are very close to, so telling you how to honour National Sister’s Day is like saying you how you like your dinner cooked – best to make that conclusion yourself after some loosely given instructions if you are completely in the dark. A dinner with both of your favourite foods, going out to see a movie that gives back memories, a walk through your former stomping grounds, or even just a cup of beverage to reconnect after many years apart. All are viable methods to spend the National Sister’s Day, in the presence of that individual that you care for in that way. That is the most important thing – spend the time with your sisters, enjoy yourselves and reclaim that bond from your childhood if any of it has drifted or stretched thin. Make the time to remember, and reconnect that while we are all here, it is the bonds with each other that we share that makes the life blossom from survival into a beautiful cornucopia of craziness we all call as life. Best to cherish each relationship, each moment we have with those of us we are closest.
