Pocky Day

Pocky Day is celebrated on November 11 of every year. In Japan, Pocky is a popular treat that can be found, and even appears in bars served alongside a glass of ice water. Pocky also has a notable presence in other Asian countries like China, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Taiwan, Burma, Vietnam and Brunei. In Malaysia, it was sold under the name “Rocky” for four decades. In 2014, it was renamed as “Pocky” with a new package design and slogan. Hence Pocky Day is a perfect day to enjoy the taste of Pocky with your family members, friends or even with co-workers.

Beat Me Up, I Wouldn’t Care…Make Fun of Me, I Still Wouldn’t Care…Eat My Pocky, You’re getting Personal.”

History of Pocky Day

Ezaki Glico food Corporation created the Pocky Day in the year 1999. Ezaki Glico food Corporation created a bready-stick snack called “Pretz” in the year 1963. After three years they decided to add chocolate for a new kind of sweet stick treat. But coating the entire stick in chocolate was not good. So they decided to hold the chocolate at one end and to keep another end like “handle” for the best eating experience. They named their new product as “Chocotekku” because tekuteku is the Japanese Mimesis for walking. But another company had already trademarked that name. Hence Glico Decided to name it is a Pocky (Derived from the word Pokkin – the sound of something that was long snapping in two). That’s how the Pocky was created. Pocky can be found in several varieties of chocolate, strawberry, and almond.
