Look For An Evergreen Day

Look For An Evergreen Day is an annual commemoration celebrated on December 19th of each year. With holidays soon approaching, you would have got your conifer tree for the celebration. Even if you are not yet set aside having a tree, then Look For An Evergreen Day is the best chance to buy a tree for yourself.  Whether the tree being real or artificial, it is the best time to look at other types of evergreens available near you.

“Freshly cut Christmas trees smelling of stars and snow and pine resin – inhale deeply and fill your soul with wintry night…” –  John Geddes

History of Look For An Evergreen Day

The year at which the Look For An Evergreen Day was first celebrated is unknown. The National Arborist Association originally established the festive celebration Day. The association has created this Day as to appreciate the beauty of these trees. An evergreen is a noble tree that has leaves in all four seasons, and it will always be green. Even in the depths of winter, these trees keep their foliage. It gives wonderful green and white contrast that represents the deep winter. These trees are classified as firs, spruces, pines, and the most popular varieties have been replaced over the years. Evergreens are traditionally decorated with edibles like apples, nuts or dates. From the 18th century, the trees will be decorated with glittering lights, jingle bells, garlands, tinsel, and ornaments. An artificial Christmas tree is also used in the celebration which is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) that resemble such a tree. The first decorated evergreen tree on record was at Riga in Latvia, in 1510.
