Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was born on 23 January 1897 and his birthday is celebrated every year as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti or Netaji Jayanti. He was an Indian nationalist whose defiant patriotism made him a hero in India, but whose attempt during World War II to rid India of British rule with the help of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan which left a troubled legacy. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had been a leader of the younger, radical, wing of the Indian National Congress in the late 1920s and 1930s, rising to become Congress President in 1938 and 1939. He always had differences of opinion with Mahatma Gandhi. He was much influenced by the schoolings of Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna after reading their works at the age of 16. He felt that his religion was more important than his studies. He failed to work under an alien government which would mean serving the British in England indeed of being selected in Indian Civil Services. He then returned to India and started the newspaper Swaraj and took charge of publicity for the Bengal Provincial Congress Committee. Later he started to work with various leaders for the independence of India. His main motto was “Purna Swaraj” which means complete freedom. He also wrote a book The Indian Struggle, which covered the country’s independence movement in the years 1920–1934. Subhas Chandra Bose’s died on 18 August 1945 in a plane crash. Still, there are many conspiracy theory and myth of him being alive.
